carly fiorina has been spending part of her day here. she attended a des moines editorial boards and we will have more on that later. john: the iowa republican party says it is cutting charges to campaigns for its predidential straw poll. it will be less of a fundraiser and more of a festival. and this is a big deal. it has had some issues and problems in the past cycles. who wins and who loses with this change? mark halperin apparently gone. we have lost our connection for, so i will head back to francine lacqua. i'm hoping she is still there. francine, are you there? let's talk about the exit polls. give us some details. francine: the exit polls are important. we have been speaking to a lot of pollsters, so the margin of error is still about 2%-3%. that means it can be about 10 seats off. it seems that the conservatives have 316 seats. the exit poll doesn't mean it is completely right. because we have so many more smaller parties, when you speak to pollsters, they say this is probably the most uncertain exit poll because it is that muc

and that is exactly the audience for carly fiorina. she's the only candidate in the republican field who is a woman and the only one going after hillary clinton. and it won't hurt her in a close primary, in the democratic race. but i think in a general election, if she does get the nomination, it could be a problem for her. >> yeah. i think you're right in the sense that hillary clinton wants that crossover appeal. she wants a huge gender gap that would ostensibly mean attracting independent women. and potentially republican women who see her as aspirational women, a fundamental part of her candidacy. when i talk to women 60 and above, they seem to be most enthusiastic about the idea of a woman being president. i think carly fiorina is wise to try to present herself as the republican alternate of. i think they both have issues that could detract from the ordinary not of their experience -- ordinariness of the arena. >> fiorina was the breakout star. more to come. great to see you, and anne. clinton will be speaking in an hour. now back

on the fiorina bit, you followed carly for a long time in the business community. do you think of fiorina run for president. >> i'm listening to what every candidate has to say on economy. we heard ben carson in his announcement. he directly referenced, i believe he referred to as broken economy. he said it needs cleaning up. referenced american debt surpassing gdp within a year. made it a very very big talking point of his speech, the economy. of course carly fiorina running a company like hewlett-packard has a pretty good idea how the economy works. obviously there is many, kirsten sat on this sofa, questioned her track record running a company and many are, but she does know how it works. she knows what it takes. so people are saying, that ben carson and carly fiorina they don't have the political background. andrea i don't know that so much matters everyone when it comes to the pocketbook. what we know that drives a lot of voters to the polls is somebody who really, is going to promise them a better economy rand better situation for their family at home. >> jed

what did you make of carly fiorina's rollout?each one of these candidates will do it in a different way. carly fiorina, the ceo of hewlett-packard did it on the internet. ben carson is going to return to detroit. and mike huckabee is returning to arkansas. it's his home and its the home of bill clinton. we are off to the races. the size of the republican field has doubled. we'll have three candidates in the race and tomorrow i expect we'll have six. martha: obviously these guys are long-shots and ladies. how do you think they stack up? >> they are long-shots. carly fiorina in the real clear politics average has 1%. ben carson 4.8%. mike huckabee is in 6th place at 8.3% and led earlier in some of the national polls. but they are long shots. carly fiorina said we don't need people who held public office. the last time the republicans nominated somebody who had not been an elected office holder or commanded the american military in a war was 1940. and you have to go back a long time before you get to somebody who had no elective res
