Donkey Kong is an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1981. It is an early example of the platform game genre, as the gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles. In the game, Jumpman (since renamed Mario) must rescue a damsel in distress, Lady (now named Pauline), from a giant ape named Donkey Kong. The hero and ape later became two of Nintendo's most popular characters.

Infamous, but surprisingly solid
While Coleco didn't do a great job with making Donkey Kong for the 2600, heck I wouldn't even call it good, Gary Kitchen did what he could within his limitations.

Only being allowed a 4K cartridge & having to program an arcade conversion on the 2600, admittedly, you have to give credit to Gary. The graphics are decent, with the girders on level 1 being a highlight & Mario and Pauline looking really nice. Donkey Kong himself looks like a demonic gingerbread man straight out of Shrek. The second stage is far more frustrating, as the fireballs can just turn around randomly, outrun you, & then end you with a terrible fate. For what it is though, the controls really do help this one, & because of that, I think it's more of a decent/mediocre game rather than an outright horrible one as most people have made this conversion out to be. You can at least get some fun out of it.

Yep.
It is indeed Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600 alright. It functions alright but it's missing 2 of the 4 levels in the arcade release.
